I’ve been needing a larger bat for sometime now and money’s tight. Bats arent cheap. I found a softball bat at a garage sale that was the right weight and size. I used the bat durring batting practice and I loved it. Are there any rules or any other reason I cant use this bat durring a game?

Serious baseball coaching question #2…?

This is the senario… I will be graduating with my 4 year degree in December. I want to be a baseball coach and I have played in high school and at a two year college. A few months ago I started volunteering at a local community college with their baseball program. I very quickly realized that I had way more knowledge of the game than the "head coach". I carried on my business and started implementing my own work out before he got to the field every day to screw it all up. Basically, the guy has NO business on a baseball field. My question is: since I am technically not getting any good coaching experience from this school, if I were to quit, would this little experience I have gained to put on a resume be good enough to get future jobs in the coaching field? I know this is long winded, but any serious answers would be great!

My son is 8yrs. old and has played baseball for 3 yrs.now. We actually just made it to State Competiton which will be next week. Now, my son has played several postions like catcher, outfield, and now most of his experience is on 1st base. He is very talented athletically. His batting average this yr. alone is around 750. Now, he has a great arm. Plenty of power. He is also very accurate. He’s most likely going to pitch or continue to play 1st. The problem is that when he throws the ball, he turns his hand and throws sideways like football instead of over! We are putting him in pitching lessons after the season is over. It is driving my husband crazy because he was a pitcher throughout school. Does anyone have any suggestions or drills that will help train him not to turn his hand over? Oh! and I also need to mention- he is a southpaw! Leftie!
I should add …I am an educator. NOTHING comes before education! My child was placed in gifted last yr. and has never scored lower than a 96A on anything he has ever done! Actually school bores him. We are very blessed. Now, no, this is not tee ball. He played tee ball 3 yrs. ago. He is playing 8 yr old coach pitch. He’ll go to player pitch next yr. He has been throwing and catching since he could walk! Everything my son does is his choice. He does not even know what his batting avg. is! We chose not to tell him. He lives and breathes ball. We have tried to get him to try other sports but he always begs to go back to baseball. If he has a 6pm game, he is asking me to put on his uniform when he gets up that am. We have NEVER pushed him and he is actually very hard on himself. He thinks he is not very good. We encourage him all the time! He needs it. I have no reason to lie about his batting avg. It is what it is! OH! and HE asked to take lessons! We arent stage parents!
He thinks is not all that great because his deficit is running. He is not the fastest runner, he will either get tagged out on a base, or just knock the ball outta the dang park. It is always one or the other but, he usually at least doubles at bat, mostly triples. He hits some nasty line drives. He gets an unbelievable amount of RBI’s! He is very strong! His coach used the gun thingy and clocked his pitch at 48. He said that was pretty dang good for a short little 8yr. old. I really don’t know that much about whether or not what he’s doing is good or bad. My husband played ball throughout college. He is proud, but sooo not pushy. He lets his coaches teach him. We are there just to cheer him and his team on win or lose!!
